Europe: Safety and Quality

The policy of the European Union, through strict control measures and the protection of agricultural products from the stage of raw material production to consumption, is to ensure a high level of food safety and, consequently, the health of consumers. To implement this policy, the European Union enforces the following measures:

  • Control systems to ensure compliance with EU standards for food safety and quality.
  • International relations with third countries concerning food safety, animal and plant health, and welfare.
  • Management of relations with the EFSA for scientific risk assessment.

The specifications for marketing peppers in the European territory concern their integrity, freshness, cleanliness from foreign substances, absence of damage from impact, temperature, or humidity, and the absence of unpleasant odors or color alterations.
